Round stone grist mill “De Onmoede” built in 1890. In the basket arch above the entrance doors on the west side of the mill, a keystone of Bentheimer sandstone has been placed with the inscription “The first stone laid by W.A. Martens 15 April 1890”. Beautifully located on the n.o. side of the village.
Until 1890 there was no windmill in Raamsdonksveer; there was a rosmolen. De Onmoede is the only surviving windmill of the two competing mills that were built a short distance from each other; the other mill was called Zeldenrust and was demolished in 1991. De Onmoede was owned by the Martens family, who were milling on motor power as early as 1900 and with an electric motor as early as 1908. De Onmoede actually stood still before the Second World War. In 1944 a grenade exploded in the attic, causing a lot of damage. The mill was dismantled in 1947 and a restoration plan was only made at the end of the 1960s. The parts for the restoration came from a demolished mill in Rijen, which fit better in De Onmoede than in the Zeldenrust mill. The municipality bought De Onmoede in 1970; the restoration was completed in 1974. After the restoration, the mill started running again, and now and then also grinding. In 2008 the mill was in such a condition that turning was irresponsible and the mill was shut down. In 2011/2012 the mill was restored and on September 1, 2012 the mill was put into use again.
